Computing
Intent
At Milby Primary School, we believe in helping our children to have the knowledge and skills to become technical innovators. Computing and technology plays a key part in their futures, and we want to help prepare them for that. Whilst at Milby, we will help children to become digital creators and know how to safely use technology to support different areas of the daily lives and work. Additionally, children need to understand the responsibilities of being digital consumers and how it can affect their time, relationships and wellbeing. Through our broad and balanced Computing curriculum, Milby aims to help all children develop into resilient, creative and independent learners. The lessons give children opportunities to tackle problems by making mistakes and learning from them. The use of technology in the workplace is constantly evolving, and we want to help encourage children to have an enjoyment when using technology and see their own potential for the future (e.g. as web developers, software engineers or IT consultants). Additionally, working in technology is all about collaboration; they will have opportunities to complete tasks and solve problems in partnership with others. At Milby, we believe it is important to teach all children about the positives of technology and consider the challenges that can arise when using different devices and platforms. We strive to teach children to become good, respectful digital citizens. As part of this, they learn how to keep themselves and others safe online, and understand that what they do online leaves a digital footprint.
