Welcome to foundation stage
Our foundation stage team for 2019/20 consists of Mrs Coates (FA) and Mrs Finch (FB), along with our teaching assistants Mrs Carty, Mrs Richardson and Miss Turrell.
Science week - March 2020
This year the theme for british science week is 'Our diverse planet'. In Foundation Stage the children explored diverse places as a strand of this theme. They compared Nuneaton to different places in the world, explored waterproof materials, discussed what we use water for and places which don't have easy access to water, and decided which 3D shapes would float or sink.
Children in Foundation stage have been experimenting with ice during February. Some poor Arctic animals had become frozen in ice balloons during the cold weather and the children worked as a team to try and melt the ice and rescue the animals. They tried spray bottles with warm water, spoons of cold water, pippets of salty water and placing the ice balloons on different surfaces such as metal or wood. When all efforts had been exhausted each animal was released by breaking the ice with a sharp drop!
During January the children looked at Chinese new year. They explored dragon dancing, tasted some food, practiced writing chinese numbers and letters and learned the story of the zodiac calendar.
During December the children have been exploring the Christian celebration of Christmas and the seasonal change to Winter. They have also planned and performed a Nativity to an audience.
This November the children have learned all about different festivals and celebrations. They have looked at diwali, birthdays, remembrance day, St Andrew's day and other special days and events.
The children have been immersed in our autumn theme during October. They have learned all about harvest time and farming, scarecrows, diwali and the season of autumn. The children also spent some time focussing on the text 'The Flower' which explores a world without colour where flowers don't grow. They discussed feelings, emotions and plant growth during this focus through pictures from the text, replotting plants in our outdoor classroom, role playing in our garden centre and creating their own pieces of flower themed art work. We also wrote autumn themed poems which are on display in the classrooms.
The children have been settling in to their new learning environment. They have worked really hard to learn how to use the outdoor classroom and the different areas in the indoor classroom, as well as forming new relationships with their new friends.
